i have a '72 pantera- engine mods to 400+/-hp-- need advice on tires/wheels-- plan to go to 17" - what front/rear combo will give the best handling? i have been told to go with 245/40/17 fronts and 315/35/17 rears-that both will fit standard wheel wells with a small amount of the rear tire protruding. i was also given advice to go with 225/45/17 fronts and 275/40/17 rears- this may be more art than science, but any advice appreciated IP: Logged |

In my opinion, 245/45/ZR16s on the front and 335/35/ZR17s on the back are best. IP: Logged |

I am running 335-35-17 on the rear and 245-40-17 in the front on a non-flared car. The set up is great, looks good and works well. IP: Logged |

For handling, low rideheight and some lower front rake is imperative. Also, we need some wheel spring travel. The extreeme setting will need a 21,5 inch diameter front tire. Look at my car at http://hem.passagen.se/hemipanter/ Here I use a 23,62 inch front tire and a spoiler to ground height of 4,75 inches. Works Ok. but when lowered to 4 inches those wheels hit fenders at hard braking-cornering. However, a 5,5 inch front setting may clear a 24,5 inch front tire under hard driving conditions. Everything in between is on a linear scale, from cruising to racing. Rear ire size is not a big problem. Besides that the best tires are har to find, Goran Malmberg. IP: Logged |
